Golden flowers, or jin hua, are the decorations attached to a lion’s horn during the eye dotting ceremony. Decorations like these were affixed to the hats of candidates who passed China’s challenging civil service examinations. Our golden flowers come with actual “phoenix eyes” (peacock feathers), thought to bring good fortune.
